Hi, I’m MG (short for MaryGabrielle).
I received my Ph.D. in Education from Harvard University in 2024.
I’m a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. I’m also Lecturer and Expository Writing Preceptor at Harvard University.
My research focuses on children’s story world absorption - how children become “lost,” or immersed, in stories - and how absorptive reading can be leveraged in K-12 education to improve reading outcomes. I also consider how fiction advances intellectual, moral, and personal understanding.
My academic work has been published in Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts, English in Education, Children’s Literature in Education and Mythlore. My work has also been featured in Education Week, The Boston Globe, The Harvard Gazette, The Culture Crush, and Deseret News, as well as Apple podcasts such as Bookworm Games and Ministry of Ideas.
I also enjoy writing creatively, and my first book series — children’s picture books for kids with chronic conditions and food allergies — launched in March of 2023.
On this website, you can access my CV and read more about my research, teaching, and creative writing. If you would like to learn more about me and my work or are interested in collaborating, please get in touch. I would love to hear from you!
